San Mames, the best stadium in the world

Singapur | | Iaso

The new San Mames has been awarded by the jury of the World Architecture Festival, the major annual event of the architecture being held these days in Singapore. The Athletic Club stadium has been awarded as the world best sports building in 2015. The first phase of the field was completed in 2013 but the works were not completed until this spring, and this is why it has participated in the competition this year.

One feature to note is the result of the facade, which emerges from the joint work of the department of IASO textile architecture and architect Cesar Azcárate. From this synergy of work and knowledge, IASO's technical team conducted a specific system that helped meeting the needs of the project.

In one aspect that was key IASO for the construction of the new stadium it was in the design, manufacture and installation of more than 2,700 ETFE panels, spread over five levels. The white sheets, sized 5.40 m by 1.20 m with double curvature geometry, allow natural ventilation of the building. The specific characteristics of ETFE material have been essential to their choice. Translucency, durability, strength and light weight are some of the aspects that have influenced the choice of this material.

The new stadium was designed by the architect César Azcárate and built by the ACXT-IDOM engineering, with a capacity for 53,000 spectators.
