IASO project in Iurreta
ASKONDO STREET, IURRETA
Iurreta, Vizcaya
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project involves creating a covered public space and pedestrianising Askondo Street (Iurreta). One of the main elements of the intervention is the transparent roof located along the centre line of the street. The aim is to create a neighbourhood meeting space where events can be held, as well as a playful space for people to enjoy.

The roof is a metal structure with a rectangular floor plan, with overall dimensions of 12 x 36 m and a maximum height of 5.75 m. The construction is symmetrical on both axes and is made up of arches that rise from 1.2 m high concrete supports. The membrane is made with a tensioned single-layer ETFE sheet system.

The metal structure is constructed with tubular sections and on-site screw connections.

The ETFE sheet is printed with a silver coloured dot design, with the aim of improving interior comfort, while maintaining the transparency of the covering. In addition, cables are added to reinforce the membrane at the most demanding points.

A lateral enclosure is also planned to protect against inclement weather. The vertical canvases are removable and are made with an FT381 mesh fabric from the Ferrari company.
