The new research building at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau has been constructed within the hospital complex. The connection via a walkway on the second floor facilitates the flow of people between facilities.
It consists of a large metal structure of bars in a spiral tube shape that connects the two buildings and is covered by a perforated membrane.
The perforated fabric is see-through both from inside and outside the walkway.
The walkway's DNA, with its double helix spiral, is conveyed exceptionally well by the continuous single-piece membrane.
TECHNICAL BASE
The walkway is approximately 14.5 m long. The outer diameter of the structure is 3.5 m. The membrane, made in a single piece, is formed of rhombus-shaped elements. Some of them required patterning to fit the geometry of the structure perfectly.
