Description SATOB-SANTO TOME

This project takes place on the island of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, part of the African continent.

This is a virgin island where they wish to share with the world the opportunity to enjoy the experience of living in nature, in a tropical forest by the ocean, without comforts leaving aside. Tents which integrate perfectly with the surroundings were introduced for this purpose.

Said tents are made of wood, and the roof is of PVC fabric with 2 central pillars to obtain this double Gaudí shape. In addition to the tensile exterior canvas, these tents have an interior false ceiling, also of ready-made canvas, creating a chamber between the two which serves as insulation. The two are joined by a mosquito canvas around the perimeter of the space between them, obtaining in this way a uniform canvas of various layers.

Technical Base

The roofs for the 24 cabins to be introduced on this island were made for the execution of this project.

Said cabins are of 3 types, differentiated by their size. A group of 3 units have dimensions 16.25 x 8.75 m and another 12 units 16.25 x 10 m. The dimensions of the 9 remaining cabins are 11.25 x 7.5 m.

Each of them has an upper canvas tensed by cables to perimeter pillars, and to two central pillars to achieve the double Gaudí shape. The installation also incorporates an interior canvas to make a false ceiling. This is fixed to the top perimeter of the wooden cabin by karabiners to a cable previously installed, and to the central pillars in the same way but to a ring located there. In this way, another canvas is tensed inside. Moreover, a mosquito canvas is put over the exterior space between the two canvases so as to join them and seal the roof.
