The envelope of the Allianz Riviera in Nice shows how textile architecture can merge structural efficiency with visual experience. IASO contributed to the project by providing the ETFE membrane technology that wraps and covers the stadium, offering climate protection while maintaining an open sense of space. Located in the heart of the French Riviera, the venue is home to OGC Nice and hosts both top-level football and major cultural events beneath a luminous silhouette that has become part of the landscape.
TECHNICAL AND FUNCTIONAL INNOVATION
IASO took part in the project through the manufacture and installation of single-layer ETFE sheets that wrap the stadium façade. The material transmits more than 90% of natural light, creating a sense of spaciousness for visitors during the day, and at night acts as a diffuser for LED lighting, turning the envelope into a luminous landmark for the city. The solution reduces the load on the wooden structure, optimises material use, and creates a unique visual effect that makes it one of the most iconic stadiums in France.
DESIGN, SUSTAINABILITY AND VISUAL IMPACT
The lightness of ETFE reduces the load on the main laminated timber structure, optimising materials and foundations. Its durability—over 25 years—and recyclability contribute to the project’s sustainable approach, which earned HQE certification. Visually, the translucent skin blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior, filtering Mediterranean light and creating a play of shadows that shifts with the day and the stadium’s activity.
